Feb 12 2010

Most of the day was boring as traders were not ready to commit in advance of long weekend. As it's often the case on such days, we had enormous number of invalidated trades - those that don't trigger a setup. Highlights of the day were finishing swing trade on CY $11 break from yesterday for a nice gain and cool NTES short into good news; look the details at http://caracommunity.com/content/bill-cara%E2%80%99s-blog-february-12-2010#comment-57277. Nice to finish the week with no single losing day.

[11:52] {_johan} if i like it i will subcribe soon
[11:52] {_johan} i am not the person who want to live from free trials

[12:37] {nemo} yeah, bear trap
[12:38] {strider} Vad, is it your rule that the break point must be on the L2?
[12:38] {nemo} you don't know how many bids are at any given point because you can hide size of your orders
[12:38] {nemo} therefore prints don't mean anything
[12:38] {Threei} it's not a rule per se, it's just kind of common sense - out of bound prints do not matter much, they are created by someone's bad fill or late porint or erroneous print
[12:39] {Threei} thus they do not carry significance

[12:04] {Threei} hmmm
[12:04] {Threei} this guy does have two hands:
[12:04] {Threei} (SA) South Africa President Zuma: Economy has 'turned a corner'; recovery remains uncertain
[12:11] {Threei} US govt obviously hired 1% more of ppulation
[12:11] {Threei} look:
[12:11] {Threei} 30% Say U.S. Heading in Right Direction
[12:11] {Threei} this number stayed at 29 firmly for months
[12:17] {Les} out cy +.11
[12:17] {Les} completely different day from yesterday
[12:17] {Threei} yesterday seemed just fine to me too
[12:20] {Les} for me and my head and my setups
[12:20] {Les} days like yesterday just suck me in to bad trades
[12:20] {Les} its the primary fault I must fix in my trading in order to advance
[12:21] {Threei} I'll find the page in MPP that will show you how to fix it
[12:22] {dino} les, good job getting over yesterday
[12:24] {Les} I don't stay angry dino. it is not my personality
[12:24] {Les} but those infrequent curve balls thrown by the market
[12:24] {Les} screw with my account
[12:25] {nemo} you are a curve ball, should fit you fine
[12:25] {Les} lol
[12:25] {Les} BELT UP NEMO
[12:25] {nemo} wow cat
[12:26] {dino} sometimes you have to play jardball
[12:26] {dino} hardball'

[12:27] {Les} OK
[12:29] {nemo} ahhhh...cat closing the earnings gap
[12:30] {Les} I'd agree with page 57 to the extent that I need to have a sheet in front of me...
[12:31] {Threei} better yet
[12:31] {Threei} take the summary reslt,
[12:31] {Threei} write it on a Post-It with comment:
[12:31] {Les} that when we approach different days, I need to read something to remind myself...
[12:31] {Threei} the price of stupidity
[12:31] {Les} how I will approach the day.
[12:31] {Threei} slap it on your monitor
[12:32] {Les} these results are in my diary
[12:32] {Threei} and before pushing buy or short, take a last glance at it
[12:32] {Threei} asking yourself:
[12:32] {Threei} is it a valid setup
[12:32] {Threei} or is it a contribution to stupidity fund
[12:32] {Les} :)
[12:32] {larisa} funny
[12:33] {Threei} if latter, look at the price again
[12:33] {Threei} come on Larisa
[12:33] {Threei} you know better than calling my humorless exercises funny
[12:34] {Threei} I am void of funny
[12:34] {Les} I'm thinking of pasting simple trading mindset under my keyboard. Today is strong trend day, today is range bound day, today is rudderless day, with appropriate trading mindset and strategy
[12:34] {Les} I have trouble going from trending day to a nothing day. i keep trading same way as day before
[12:35] {Threei} whatever works... just don't put it ON a keyboard, or your typing goes the way of dodo... i.e., becomes much like mine
[12:36] {Threei} wow Les, you seem to have a very uncommon disease:
[12:36] {Threei} too LONG attention span
[12:36] {Threei} rarity among us, moth
[12:36] {Les} oh now you're just being modest...
[12:36] {Les} or taking the piss out of me

Feb 10 2010

Session Time: Wed Feb 10 00:00:00 2010

[08:43] {Threei} - The hearing has been postponed due to the snow storm on the east coast.
[08:43] {Threei} **In some of his most recent commentary from last month, Bernanke noted:
[08:43] {Threei} - Fed is confident it can control monetary and credit growth; Fed officials understand that the balance sheet needs to be normalized; Raising rates on reserves is one way to control balance sheet.
[08:43] {Threei} - Policy decisions must be forward looking; Policy decisions in early 2000 do not seem to be inappropriate; Not worried about confidence in US financial system.
[08:43] {Threei} - Economy only now beginning to recover from deep recession; Monetary policy may not be appropriate for dealing with bubbles; Appropriate response for dealing with housing bubbles is regulatory rather than monetary; Rate hikes are not the best tool to burst asset bubbles.
[08:43] {Threei} - Dollar remains the dominant reserve currency.
[08:43] {Threei} - If the regulatory system is not reformed to deal with future bubbles or if it is not able to keep risks in check, we must remain open to using monetary policy as a supplementary tool for addressing those risks.
