July 16 2010

FCX breakdown was a clean illustration of couple concepts. One is a DBI setup - you can see this consolidation just above support with breakdown triggering short entry. Another is entry after strong player fills his big position and withdraws, letting stock go. In this case it was a big buyer at .82, absorbing all the selling for a while. As soon as he got out of the way the dam was broken. Chart illustrates the rest (click for larger view):

Other than that, nice day with a few good trades, notably AAPL long for a $1.30 run

[10:35] {Threei} hmmm
[10:35] {Threei} .50 break is kind of standard fare

[11:46] {strider} There were these two irishmen, walking out of a bar.

[12:44] {Threei} risk rises, reward diminishes
[12:44] {Threei} so, we all know people are weird, right?
[12:45] {Threei} but some things never cease to amaze nonetheless
[12:45] {Threei} explain this someone to me

[13:37] {Threei} it's a jump on Jobs' presentation
[13:37] {Threei} Apple Inc CEO Jobs: Will give away bumper cases to all iPhone 4 users free of charge; Working hard to find a solution for the iPhone 4 antenna issue and it is not unique to this product; have sold 3M units of iPhone 4 and it is the best product Apple has made
[13:37] {Threei} - Notes We are not perfect but want to make all customers happy
[13:37] {Threei} - Jobs also showing examples of phones such as the Blackberry, Samsung, and HTC Droid that encounter similar problems with number of bars
[13:37] {Threei} - Notes that Apple has already updated the software that was causing the the phone to show the incorrect number of reception bars.
[13:37] {Threei} - Claims that only 0.5% of customers have called Applecare with regards to the antenna issue, historically not a large number; data shows return rate under AT&T's buyers remorse program for the iPhone 4 was 1.7% v 6% for 3Gs model.
[13:37] {Threei} - AT&T provided call drop rates, iPhone 4 does drop more calls per 100 than iPhone 3Gs but difference is less than 1%; despite its better antenna.
[13:37] {Threei} - Reiterates that Apple had released operating system update to correct bar reception bug
[13:37] {Threei} - Notes that for those who have purchased a bumper case already, they will receive a refund
[13:37] {Threei} - Will revisit the issue in September to see how things are going
[13:37] {Threei} - Will begin shipping the White iPhone by end of July; phone will be available in 17 new countries at the end of the month.

[13:43] {Threei} AAPL's coming into bounce zone
[13:44] {Threei} .50 break
[13:44] {Threei} if holding .30
[13:44] {Threei} invalifated
[13:44] {Threei} 252 break
[13:45] {Threei} if hol,ding .75
[13:45] {Threei} lol
[13:45] {Threei} invalidated
[13:45] {shorty} lol
[13:46] {Threei} 251
[13:47] {Threei} stop under .70
[13:47] {Threei} no need to say, smaaal shares
[13:48] {Threei} 1:1
[13:48] {Threei} target 252.30
[13:49] {strider} in .01
[13:49] {strider} my stop .50
[13:57] {strider} out +.69
[13:58] {Threei} over 1:2
[14:11] {Threei} target hit
[14:11] {strider} pretty cool.
[14:11] {hawk} nice call
[14:12] {Threei} took enough time for me to faint and get out of it - twice
[14:16] {lilyd} why did you choose that specific target?
[14:17] {hawk} to impress the ladies
[14:17] {larisa} lol
[14:17] {lilyd} haha
[14:17] {Threei} there you go... raptors know
[14:18] {Threei} kind of natural level of the bounce on the chart,
[14:19] {Threei} i am sure something like fibonacci will be around there
[14:19] {Threei} i don't draw them but what looks natural to my eys is more often than not coincides with fibs, or gunn lines
[14:20] {lilyd} yeah, you're right -- there's one right at .30 - thanks!
[14:20] {Threei} really?
[14:21] {Threei} cool :)
[14:21] {lilyd} pretty amazing...
[14:21] {Threei} actually just natural if you think of what fibs are
[14:22] {Threei} to make it more visual, think of golden ratio
[14:22] {strider} FCX broke 60.
[14:22] {Threei} can you spot the place for it without measuring,
[14:22] {Threei} just by single glance?
[14:22] {Threei} with very little practice, sure,
[14:23] {Threei} because this is where it's the most natural, the most pleasing for an eye so to speak
[14:23] {Threei} Fibs are pretty much the same, natural ratio of things
[14:24] {Threei} there is a rule of thirds in photography,
[14:24] {Threei} calling for placing your subject at the cross of the lines that divide the area of image by three
[14:25] {Threei} beginners need visual help, and many cameras provide it by placing a grid in the viewfinder
[14:25] {nemo} Good Morning!
[14:25] {Threei} more experienced photographer places the subjkect in those spots automatically, never looking at any grids
[14:25] {Threei} nemo :)
[14:25] {Threei} and strider thought you were drunk
[14:26] {strider} what makes you think he's not?
[14:26] {nemo} Had to work in the gun shop today
[14:26] {Threei} actually...
[14:26] {Threei} really... you are right
[14:26] {strider} drunk?
[14:26] {nemo} nahhh...
[14:27] {strider} you just missed the play of the month. AAPL
[14:27] {nemo} yeah...new today would be great
[14:27] {Threei} funno, I actually liked that FCX short more
[14:28] {Threei} required more craft, and was less dicey
[14:29] {Threei} lilyd... take a look at https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEFbkBj1ok4g8cXYeBW0oi5JAnVgwB72jU8IyJrYLTspYDWc-jIssLqtXWQ0nA5meua2GiJtjzxb6wLk_mXt8-IEZxStpEGtbPkNt2YJ6tBEl_pBqOD75_ikeCfEqpYsqZ0G1D9kVJgx4/s1600/A7116927.jpg
[14:29] {nemo} might have a db on spy here
[14:29] {Threei} see this placement by the rule of thirds? :)
[14:29] {Threei} divide image mentally by three parts both vertically and horisontally
[14:29] {larisa} now lily is sorry she ever asked :)
[14:29] {lilyd} beautiful!
[14:30] {Threei} orca will be roughly at the intersection
[14:30] {Threei} well larisa.. I am thorough... don't want to hear full answer, either don't ask or alert that simple yes or no will siffice :)
[14:30] {larisa} lol
[14:31] {Threei} from the same series: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJNAj1LuIBeT9nS3S4RRV1SvpU-ICTYlyuIyRV3Gf_4lQ5z0dWmRDQQJTz0Qbw2wcHeLqIyCjqBw6ar26JsVgHgNIUDuGoBvBtFWDrcFtx8myfirqC2zHD0cGqawGixJy-VNrq0yy8SIc/s1600/A7116845.jpg
[14:31] {Threei} different subject, same idea of placement
[14:32] {Threei} error many beginners make - central placement of the subject
[14:32] {Threei} kills the motion
[14:32] {lilyd} wish I was there
[14:33] {lilyd} actually, you'll probably get tired of my questions before I get tired of the answers
[14:33] {Threei} ty... best praise fora photographer
[14:33] {Threei} hehe... let's check that theory
[14:33] {lilyd} what do you think about FCX now - too late?
[14:34] {nemo} could be end of day play short
[14:34] {Threei} it's trying to decide between bounce and futher selling,
[14:34] {Threei} my notion would be bouce, but like 51/49
[14:35] {Threei} .15 long
[14:35] {Threei} if holding 60
[14:35] {Threei} but very discretionary
[14:35] {Threei} just not a good time of the day for it
[14:36] {lilyd} OK - thanks
[14:38] {Threei} invalidated
[14:38] {Threei} (thank goodness)
[14:38] {nemo} yeah, but getting in short territory now ;)
[14:39] {Threei} nope
[14:39] {Threei} rather:
[14:39] {Threei} invalidated one side, didn't form another
[14:39] {Threei} just drifting
[14:40] {Threei} will rinse you both ways if you go for it
[14:40] {nemo} then perhaps we have a range play here
[14:40] {Threei} maybe range scalp,
[14:40] {Threei} yes
[14:40] {Threei} but it's a play for itching hands
[14:40] {nemo} yeah
[14:40] {Threei} those who just can't sit still :)
[14:40] {nemo} Thus, the glass of wine
[14:41] {Threei} see how short wiuld have been killed?
[14:44] {lilyd} yes and I'm ahead for a change today and don't want to do anything risky
[14:45] {Threei} :)
[14:47] {hawk} DNDN 31 break interesting if it stays under .15
[14:50] {strider} close up or down?
[14:50] {Threei} gosh
[14:50] {Threei} to close up from here, we would have to have rally of rallies
06[14:51] * nemo slaps strider around a bit with a large large..no slap...just shoot him
[14:51] {strider} what I meant was, run up or down from here.
[14:51] {strider} GS c&h
[14:52] {nemo} well, spy coul fall to .65 before it hit's the last pivot support
[14:52] {Threei} too early to tell yet
[14:53] {strider} OK. I'll check back about 3:55
[14:53] {nemo} rimm
[14:56] {nemo} looks like rimm might have been a good idea
[14:58] {nemo} then again
[15:00] {Threei} notice, FCX is still right there
[15:00] {nemo} raised the range a tad though
[15:02] {strider} APOL?
[15:03] {Threei} locked in narrow range as the rest
[15:08] {strider} RIMM broke
[15:08] {Threei} how I enjoy the look of canadian dollar today...
[15:11] {shorty} what is it at Threei?
[15:11] {Threei} don't know exact number, I view it through proxy, FXC
[15:12] {Threei} should be down more than a cent from the look of it
[15:12] {shorty} thanks
[15:13] {shorty} 94.35
[15:13] {Threei} good
[15:13] {Threei} can I have it at 80?
[15:16] {strider} FCX spike
[15:16] {strider} well, small..
[15:17] {Threei} man... expectations are really low if you call this a spike :)
[15:17] {strider} was on a very small chart. :)
[15:18] {strider} but yes, lowered expectations.
[15:21] {strider} also, lower expectorations.
[15:26] {strider} aapl
[15:26] {Threei} FCX is holding very well
[15:27] {Threei} would be my first bounce candidate
[15:29] {Threei} if we get any decent SPY bounce, FCX should go to about .40
06[15:36] * Threei kicks FCX in the rear with heavy futy army boots
[15:37] {Threei} candian dollar is down 1.38 cents
[15:37] {Threei} beautiful
[15:38] {strider} Did you call FCX, vad?
[15:38] {Threei} not with exact trigger
[15:38] {Threei} 15:26] {Threei} FCX is holding very well
[15:38] {Threei} [15:27] {Threei} would be my first bounce candidate
[15:38] {Threei} [15:29] {Threei} if we get any decent SPY bounce, FCX should go to about .40
[15:38] {Threei} was at .09 at the moment
[15:38] {Threei} consider it musings rather than call
[15:39] {strider} now we have a trading muse.
[15:39] {Threei} we always fif
[15:39] {Threei} review your 4steps package
[15:39] {Threei} fit?
[15:39] {Threei} did
[15:42] {strider} short VVUS .38 stop .48
[15:43] {shorty} l MGM .60
[15:45] {shorty} nice one on VVUS strider
[15:45] {strider} missed the real trigger
[15:47] {shorty} almost ready to give up on MGM
[15:48] {strider} stop to .40
[15:49] {strider} out +.10
[15:50] {shorty} still with my mule
[15:50] {Threei} and carrot dangling in front of it?
[15:50] {shorty} lol....that is what I was missing!
[15:50] {Threei} or you are stick kind of guy?
[15:51] {shorty} lol

[15:51] {shorty} might

[15:52] {shorty} hmmm...k

[15:53] {Threei} we need it in the market
[15:53] {shorty} LOL!!!!I know
[15:53] {nemo} killing what?
[15:53] {shorty} I have seen him too

[15:53] {Threei} yes
[15:53] {shorty} Maybe he is responsible for the horse deaths at the Stampede too
[15:53] {nemo} Reminds me of a joke
[15:54] {Threei} don't even
[15:54] {nemo} Hey, Strider?
[15:54] {Threei} http://www.vancouversun.com/opinion/Husky+dead+several+more+dogs+hurt+Alberta+beaver+attacks/3278918/story.html

[15:58] {nemo} I realize, I gave you the correct answer
