US Indices:
- Dow Jones +0.1%
- S&P500 flat
- Nasdaq +0.5%
- Industrials and Services are the leading sectors heading into the close, while Basic Materials and Healthcare lag. Defense names RTN, LMT, and NOC are up 2-3% in industrials. Services are highlighted by 2-3% rally in EXPD and CHRW. Oil majors CVX, COP, APA, DVN are all down over 2% on broad declines in energy. CLF is gaining sharply again, up 10%.
Fixed-Income: US fixed income rally is back with the added tailwind momentum from yesterday's bond market close against another day of steep losses in equities. The buying is particularly pronounced in the benchmark, sending the 2-10 spread toward its lowest levels of the year. In European periphery, the yield on the Greek 10-year is up nearly 30bps above 6.8%, following overnight chatter related to uncertainty over Athens bailout exit as well as reports of political momentum for the opposition anti-bailout Syriza party.
- US 2-yr: -5bps at 0.37%
- 10-yr: -8bps at 2.20%
- 30-yr: -6bps at 3.01%
- 2-10 spread: -3bps at 1.83%
Energy:
- WTI Nov crude oil $81.95; Down nearly 5% for its biggest one-day decline in 2 years after IEA lowered its global demand growth forecasts for 2014 and 2015.
Metals:
- Spot Gold $1,234/oz; Up about $9 from overnight lows - the uptrend is slightly more pronounced than silver; Early session highs around $1,238 were a 1-month high.
- Spot Silver $17.39/oz; Around the middle of its 15c session range
- Dec Copper $3.08/lb; Largest increase in about a month and highest level in 3 weeks on momentum buying following strong China imports and renewed expectation of mainland infrastructure-driven stimulus.
