Mar 12 2010

One more flat day. ZION long worked first thing in the morning, then BBY got stopped, and nice play on IPO AVEO was called as discretionary, for momo traders - worked out nicely but to keep a record clean, I usually do not include those. Finishing 5th week with no losing days, I probably was a bit too careful but then again - very narrow day didn't provide a lot of opportunities anyway.

Session Time: Fri Mar 12 00:00:00 2010

[10:14] {magoo} nice bounce AIG
[10:14] {Threei} I can sometimes define support if there is something within today's range to indicate it, but it's beyond today's range,

[11:11] {Threei} (US) CNBC's Liseman: Dodd financial reform bill would limit Fed to supervising banks with $100B+ in assets
[11:11] {Threei} - Compromise would put consumer financial products agency in the Fed.
[11:11] {Threei} - Parties still working on derivatives compromise
[11:13] {Les} Fed can continue to scheme with biggest banks hey - good boy Dodd
[11:13] {Les} Vad, you interested in zqk pullback here?
[11:13] {Threei} not really
[11:14] {Threei} Financial products agency in the Fed? talk about fox and henhouse
[11:14] {Les} well I hope you're here to lead me through the next big crash...
[11:15] {Threei} who says there will be one
[11:15] {Threei} and
[11:15] {Threei} we survived last one very nicely
[11:15] {Threei} having prolonged winning streak in those crazy months
[11:15] {Les} that's what I'm thinking. I can presume human nature to do same stupidity once again at some point in future
[11:16] {Threei} well yeah
[11:16] {Threei} but as far as nearest fture is concerned, I don't buy all these alarming screams about crash coming immediately
[11:16] {Threei} calls for double dip, for retesting of 666
[11:16] {Les} ah no, not what i meant
[11:17] {jfjf64} market breakin
[11:17] {Threei} IMO, not going to happen - not until next bubble develops and bursts
[11:17] {Les} S&L was what? 80's , 90's?
[11:17] {Les} tech bubble 2000
[11:17] {Les} housing 2007
[11:17] {Threei} well, I think they will become more frequent now
[11:17] {Les} voila
[11:17] {Les} was about to say same thing
[11:17] {dino} s&l 80s
[11:18] {Threei} general instability incorporated in the system comes to a head
[11:18] {Les} ok so frequency contracting
[11:18] {Threei} and starts manifesting itself more actively
[11:19] {Threei} unless the system itself goes through serious remodeling, crisis mode will become almost a normal mode soon
[11:19] {Threei} but this "soon" is still not measured in months
[11:19] {Les} hmm. wonder what happens when crisis is normalised in western societies?
[11:20] {Threei} financial system crash on one of the extremes
[11:20] {Threei} it won't be normalized
[11:20] {Threei} it will just become so friequent and so strong that stanility will be lost
[11:20] {Threei} stability
[11:20] {Les} yeh, being a new norm
[11:21] {Les} was thinking social consequences:
[11:21] {Threei} hope for salvation is, enough people realize that the problem is not in bad behaviior of this or that bank or executive
[11:21] {Les} http://miburl.com/vmWrYj
[11:21] {Threei} and start voting in people who want real reform of the system that produces such behavior
[11:21] {Les} sure
[11:22] {Threei} then the very existence of this ugly conglomerate of Fed and govt comes into question
[11:22] {Threei} fed gets abolished
[11:22] {Threei} central bank becomes public
[11:23] {Threei} conflict of interests between lender and borrower is eliminated,
[11:23] {Threei} spending gets reigned,
[11:23] {Threei} and situation gets a chance to come back to normal
[11:23] {Threei} That's my scenario for a cure
[11:23] {Les} to reach such a moment, will, in the memorable phrase of Dickens, be "Hard Times"
[11:24] {Threei} Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc Comments on FDA inspection reports, notes it addressed these findings in previous public statements
[11:24] {Threei} - States that it previously said the FDA's observations are addressable.
[11:24] {Threei} don't know... I am no Nostradamus
[11:24] {Threei} things happen quickly
[11:24] {Threei} changes reach magnitude unthikable just a few short years ago
[11:25] {Threei} straw poll among youth republicans a month or so ago showed most popularity for who do you think
[11:25] {Threei} Ron Paul, out of all candidates
[11:26] {Threei} think about it... youth didn't go for more glamorous candidates,
[11:26] {Les} so they aren't stupid
[11:26] {Threei} they were more enamored with one who calls for Fed abolishment
[11:27] {Threei} huge problem is - this is not really segment of life where common sense and people's intuition helps much
[11:27] {Threei} it's jst too complicated and specialized
[11:27] {Threei} hard to expect the layman to understand all the implications of Fed existence or abolishment
[11:30] {Threei} JPMorgan Chase and Co CEO Dimon: support 70-80% of the regulatory reforms being proposed in Washington including the consumer protection agency
[11:30] {Threei} - must allow banks to fail in the future, and "banks should pay for bank failure."
[11:30] {Threei} - notes small business is starting to show improvement, middle market companies doing better than many people believe.
[11:33] {magoo} aig

[11:38] {Threei} - Overhaul of student loan program will be included in the healthcare bill.
[11:38] {Threei} good idea... let's also include carbon tax, financial reform and travel advisory in there
[11:39] {dino} well, that is the plan, since they can't get these approved the traditional way
[11:39] {dino} it's the "we know what is good for you" play
[11:39] {Threei} yup
[11:40] {Threei} you are ahainst it? you arfe just too stupid to know what is good for you
[11:40] {Threei} but worry not

[11:55] {Les} TM taking that kicking was great, but only happened once
[11:57] {Les} following a momo event, more money is lost than won
[11:58] {Threei} once per month sounds exaggerated
[11:58] {strider} Ah, a phiLESopher
[11:58] {Threei} it depends on market, some environemtn is more conducive to momo plays than others
[11:59] {Les} that I've played, TM with you, AIG recently. yeh sure it changes. but i wasn't here last summer
[11:59] {Threei} but even now we had AIG, TM, SEED,

[11:13] {Threei} adding your order creates liquidity
[11:13] {nemo} I was looking at wfc break of .50 back around 10:30
[11:13] {Threei} taking out someone's takes out liquidity
[11:14] {Threei} example will be the simplest way to illustrate the concept
[11:14] {magoo} i mentioned it .35 area
[11:14] {Threei} stock is trading 20 x 20.10
[11:14] {Threei} you want to buy
[11:14] {Threei} hit 20.10 offer - you take away liquidity
[11:14] {Threei} bid at any price BELOW 20.10 - you add liquidity
[11:14] {Threei} you want to sell:
[11:15] {Threei} hit the bid at 20 - you take away liquidity
[11:15] {Threei} offer at any price HIGHER that 20 - you add liquidity
[11:15] {Threei} of course in order to get a fill you need someone to hit your order
[11:15] {Threei} that's why it's better to exit into strong buying,
[11:16] {Threei} offering your shares into surge
[11:16] {Threei} like C at .05
[11:16] {Threei} but when your order is taken out - ECN pays you
[11:16] {Threei} look at your Analysis window
[11:17] {Threei} where there is a breakdown separately passtru and comm
[11:17] {Threei} you will see how your passsthru number drops if you got hit on adding liquidity order
[11:18] {Threei} and if you manage to get it on both ends - you will actually see positive number in there
[11:18] {Threei} rare case though, to get bioth in and out adding liquidity

[12:35] {nemo} There's what's called a bell curve
[12:35] {nemo} represents standard distribution across a valid sample size
[12:36] {nemo} So when you're measuring something, IQ for instance
[12:36] {Les} yeh I know what bell curve is
[12:36] {nemo} You have a large enough sample size, the sample will follow a standard distribution
[12:36] {nemo} o.k.
[12:36] {nemo} So, let's say the masses are a good size sample
[12:36] {nemo} How do you think I.Q. will distribute across it?
[12:37] {nemo} O.K...
[12:37] {nemo} Well, basically, 50% will have a lower than average I.Q. (under 100)
[12:37] {Les} hmmm tempted to say uneven distribution
[12:38] {nemo} So 50% of the people don't have the wiring to think critically in the first place
[12:38] {Les} ok
[12:38] {nemo} That leaves 50% who have some intellectual capability
[12:38] {Les} what's your excuse Nemo?
[12:38] {Les} :D

[12:39] {nemo} Anyway...
[12:39] {dino} no high heels?
[12:39] {nemo} tough as a kid
[12:40] {nemo} so...50% are left with some capacity, although one could argue to really have the ability to comprehend what is going on (as if we have a clue) you have to be a bit farther up the curve
[12:40] {nemo} so let's say 35%
[12:40] {nemo} then there is the matter of interest, laziness, and time, not to mention previous indoctrinated tendencies
[12:41] {nemo} those all come into affect
[12:41] {nemo} that's why the masses will always be the masses
