Sep 16 2010

Profitable but largely narrow and boring day. No interesting chart to show.

Session Time: Thu Sep 16 00:00:00 2010
[08:24] {Threei}  (US) Preview: Weekly Initial Jobless Claims and Continuing claims due at 08:30 ET (12:30 GMT)
[08:24] {Threei}  *** Consensus expectations:
[08:24] {Threei}  Initial Jobless Claims: 459Ke v 451K prior;
[08:24] {Threei}  Continuing Claims: 4.46Me v 4.478M prior
[08:24] {Threei}  **REMINDER: The lower than expected 451K weekly jobless claims in the prior week may have been distorted by the Labor Dept estimating a large portion of the data due to the Labor Day holiday. In addition to the normal week-to-week volatility in the series, the Labor Department reported that 9 states (DC, Illinois, Idaho, Hawaii, Oklahoma, Michigan, and Washington) did not file claims data due to the Labor Day holiday. California and Virginia estimated their own figures and the US Government estimated the other 7.

Sep 15 2010

Nice strong day as we identified early the main theme: gap down luring the bears, then creep-up slowly killing them. Today's chart of the day is again on bottom fishing theme. We shorted LVS first for a scalp, covering into this long red bar, then went long as setup formed itself. Click for the larger view and peruse the log for details of the call.

Sep 14 2010

Another nice day with good winning percentage. Our catch-of-the-day chart today is on the techniques of the bottom fishing. I hate buying arbitrary low - that's knife-catching and lead to bleeding fingers all too often. Instead, I prefer waiting for a clean bottom formation on the chart (Double Bottom being one of the most clear setups) - not only it gives me a clear idea of an entry but also provides me with nicely structured setup and clearly defined stop level. In case on ARNA today, 10-15 cents stop on 4.10 break gave us very nice risk/reward.

[09:07] {Threei}  - When gauged by the standards of the Divisions 2007 draft guidance for Developing Products for Weight Management, the mean weight loss associated with the lorcaserin 10 mg QD and BID dose was about 3% greater than the mean weight loss with placebo. Therefore lorcaserin did not satisfy the guidances mean efficacy criterion. However, the lorcaserin 10 mg BID dose did, by a slim margin, satisfy the categorical efficacy criterion.
[09:07] {Threei}  - Valvular heart disease, neuro-psychiatric and cognitive-related adverse events, and preclinical tumor development are three noteworthy safety issues discussed in the FDA background documents.

Sep 13 2010

Strong day with every trade working and just a few invalidations (setups that never triggered). On educational front, we have an ultimate unbiased trade today - two-sided setup that we play either long or short depending on which side triggers. Notice  consolidation range outlined on the screenshot; break of the upper envelope triggers long trade while break of lower one triggers short one. Stop is placed on the other side of the range.
