Jul 02 2010

Not very active but profitable day, with CAT being our most profitable trader while our traditional "victim" LVS was less readable than usually. All trades were pretty much run-of-the-mill stuff, nothing interesting in educational sense.

Session Time: Fri Jul 02 00:00:00 2010

[08:01] {hawk} good morning
[08:13] {Threei}  good morning
[08:13] {nemo} ;)
[08:13] {hawk} RIG news?
[08:15] {Threei}  don't see anything after that threatening one from June 30, about investigation into tax implications of their office relocatinf to Switzerland
[08:16] {Threei}  (EU) ECB's Stark: The EU's institutional fiscal policy framework failed, need independent body to oversee budget policies
[08:16] {Threei}  - EU could cut access to structural funds for budget infringements.
[08:16] {Threei}  - Different rules are needed for more vulnerable member states and better policy coordination
[08:16] {Threei}  - Reiterates view that high indebtedness not only a Euro area problem
[08:16] {Threei}  - Reiterates view that there is "no crisi of the Euro'
[08:17] {Threei}  EU) ECB's Gonzales-Paramo: Not concerned about the failure to sterilize bond purchases
[08:17] {Threei}  - This development is not surprising given liquidity conditions.
[08:17] {Threei}  - Positive that stress tests cover more than 25 European banks to test for sovereign risk
[08:17] {Threei}  - Test results should be given for each bank
[08:17] {Threei}  - Sovereign default is a 'absurd scenario'
[08:17] {Threei}  - Reiterates view that Euro Zone canot allow a member country to default
[08:17] {Threei}  ***Reminder: On Jun 29th the ECB drained 31.9B in 1-week deposits v 55B intended; avg weighted yield at 0.54%
[08:17] {Threei}  I reiterate:
[08:17] {Threei}  Sovereign default is a 'absurd scenario'
[08:18] {Threei}  Reiterates view that Euro Zone canot allow a member country to default
[08:18] {Threei}  can you say fried?
[08:18] {hawk} thx.  been putting off re-subscribing to a news service, but i feel a bit lost without it
[08:19] {Threei}  a lot of data is coming at 8:30
[08:19] {hawk} how much is trade the news / month?
[08:20] {Threei}  I am lost even without it...
[08:20] {Threei}  I mean with it
[08:20] {hawk} lol
[08:20] {Threei}  it's just my normal state I guess, so I am fine with it
[08:20] {nemo} I think Les is rubbing off on you Vad
[08:20] {Les} eschew control nemo
[08:20] {Threei}  there are two versions of it, voice+text and text only, diff cost
[08:21] {Threei}  make sure that you use that icon at the bottom of our webpage, it gives discount
[08:21] {Threei}  no nemo, not really, I was always good at getting lost
[08:21] {hawk} cool, i will
[08:28] {Threei}  EUR/USD FX chatter that 'whisper' headline Non-Farm payroll around -90K v -110Ke
[08:28] {Threei}  BLTXX Baltic Dry Bulk Index declines apprx 3% (26th straight decline)
[08:28] {Threei}  - Longest decline since Aug 2005
[08:30] {nemo} must have been good
[08:30] {Threei}  *(US) JUN AVERAGE HOURLY EARNINGS M/M: -0.1% V 0.1%E; AVERAGE WEEKLY HOURS: 34.1 V 34.2E
[08:30] {Threei}  *(US) JUN CHANGE IN NONFARM PAYROLLS: -125K V -130KE; CHANGE IN PRIVATE PAYROLLS: 83K V 110KE
[08:30] {Threei}  *(US) JUN UNEMPLOYMENT RATE: 9.5% V 9.8%E
[08:31] {nemo} not really good...but basically baked in
[08:35] {nemo} fas liking the numbers, market not so much
[08:35] {Threei}  FX chatter was wrong
[08:35] {Threei}  (again
[08:35] {Threei}  what idiot comes up with this stuff...
[08:36] {nemo} mmhhhh...market coughing up a furball
[08:36] {nemo} wtf
[08:38] {Threei}  btw, Les,
[08:38] {Threei}  I had a thought after our yesterday exchange on your entries
[08:38] {Threei}  (and yes, the process of thinking hurt badly)
[08:39] {Threei}  you were hesitant to "chase" entry by voluntary increase of limit by couple cents,
[08:39] {Threei}  but then frustration of missing entry led you to much bigger chasing, enetring good 10 cents or so higher
[08:40] {Threei}  which didn't just scew r/r but almost placed you on the opposite side
[08:40] {Threei}  skew
[09:04] {Les} hi vad, yes I believe the chasing issue will go away with profitable trades made
[09:05] {Threei}  I'd think it's other way around
[09:05] {Threei}  profitable trades will come with chasing going away
[09:05] {strider} no laser charts here.
[09:05] {Les} yeh but frustration has been building as I miss your good stuff and then I create for myself bad setups
[09:07] {Threei}  charts OK
[09:07] {Les} if i remember you correctly, you put your limit price .05 above entry and leave it like that
[09:07] {Les} simply buying and selling with the same limit price
[09:07] {Threei}  depends
[09:08] {Threei}  it's not universal number
[09:08] {dptl} good morning
[09:08] {Threei}  dp :)
[09:08] {Threei}  if I deal with thick stock with no slippage, 1 cents is usualy enough
[09:08] {Threei}  thin volatile one, more room is needed,
[09:09] {Les} lvs yesterday
[09:09] {Threei}  and kind of trade I go for matters
[09:09] {Les} how much room did you give it?
[09:09] {Threei}  no may I'd go for 5 cents offset if I do a scalp type I
[09:09] {Threei}  LVS is normally 2-3 cents,
[09:09] {Les} ok
[09:09] {Threei}  and if I do scalp only, it's 1-2,
[09:10] {dptl} no charts laser?
[09:10] {Threei}  if it gets away, it returns for secondary entry more often than not
[09:10] {Les} charts ok here dp
[09:10] {Threei}  5th server here, fine
[09:10] {Threei}  chart server that is
[09:10] {dptl} hmm...not here
[09:11] {strider} where are you, dp?
[09:11] {Threei}  switch both, quote and chart servers
[09:11] {dptl} vancouver
[09:11] {Les} well there's your problem
[09:11] {strider} hmm.....I'm on east coast....that's not the problem.
[09:11] {Les} frikin canadian
[09:11] {nemo} I can't believe Switzerland let you in
[09:11] {Les} provisional
[09:11] {Les} on good behaviour
[09:12] {strider} He's under house arrest.   They won't let him out.
[09:12] {strider} switching servers didn't work for me, vad.  Or changing symbs.
[09:12] {strider} trying a reboot.
[09:13] {dptl} same here
[09:13] {Threei}  strange
[09:13] {Threei}  maybe some of accounts are affected
[09:14] {dptl} works..on restart
[09:14] {strider} reboot fixed it...or at least coincided with reboot.
[09:15] {dino} gm all
[09:15] {Threei}  dino :)
[09:15] {strider} morning dino.
[09:19] {dino} :D
[09:19] {Les} thinking bounce day dino. you got some stocks lined up?
[09:20] {dino} yes
[09:20] {Les} stupid question i know
[09:20] {dino} fcx, clf, ctrp, itri, qcom, fdx, whr, ups to start
[09:21] {Les} ty
[09:21] {dino} gl
[09:22] {dptl} so, Vad..if let say entry was .20 with stop .10 and you got in .23....you still will exit .30 or half (1:1).... not like .33?
[09:22] {ese} good morning ........
[09:22] {Threei}  ese :)
[09:22] {hawk} good question dp, was wondering about that
[09:23] {Threei}  dp, do market patterns change depending on your entry?
[09:23] {Threei}  or, let me put it this way:
[09:23] {Threei}  does market know where you enter?
[09:24] {dptl} no,....but it's like risking 13c and making 7c
[09:24] {Threei}  so don't chase that much
[09:24] {lasertrev} morning
[09:24] {Threei}  trev :)
[09:24] {strider} but does market know where 1:1 from your trigger is?
[09:24] {Threei}  if I go for a bigger trade, I may give it couple cents more
[09:24] {Threei}  no it doesn't,
[09:24] {Threei}  but 1:1 didn't come from my desires,
[09:25] {Threei}  it's a pattern ovserved over years,
[09:25] {Threei}  that in a certain stricture of setup stock is likely to pause or reverse around these levels
[09:25] {Threei}  setup doesn't come from my imagination, it's a pattern existing in the market
[09:25] {dino} add pot to list
[09:26] {ese} we have plenty of that here in BC
[09:26] {Threei}  lol
[09:26] {dino} lol
[09:26] {ese} might be our biggest export to Washington state
[09:27] {hawk} getting ready for the weekend dino?
[09:28] {ese} nahhhh...golfers live there lives clean.....just ask John Daley
[09:29] {nemo} hey ese, you ever been to Berkley?
[09:29] {ese} nope ...not yet
[09:29] {ese} fabulous music school there
[09:29] {nemo} yep...that's why I asked
[09:30] {dino} not really hawk, couple parties to attend thats all
[09:30] {ese} simply known as   ...Berkley ....to the rest of the world
[09:30] {dptl} :)...i see..Vad...thats where i have problem..like i am trying to realy get 1:1....if i got inat .23 trying to get out at.33
[09:31] {jfjf64} mornin
[09:31] {dptl} i guess you right should not chase that much
[09:31] {Threei}  how about applying some common sense? :)

Jul 01 2010

Nice day, as we got a few good trades on both sides. For the Catch of the Day we have
beautiful long play on LVS reversal today, break of mini-range formed at the bottom. While chart is self-explanatory, whole play was based on general market read: reversal as opposite to breakdown. Read the comments starting from 11:04 and look at intraday SPY chart for comparison.

[09:52] {Threei}  Recent emerging market data suggests some cracks in the BRIC wall
[09:52] {Threei}  - The conventional wisdom in the first half of 2010 has been that global economic recovery will be led by emerging economies, as the developed world more slowly crawls out of the ditch of its various financial crises. However, cracks appeared in this argument this week, as poor data showed that trouble with the recovery in the developed world is certainly carrying over into emerging market economies.
[09:52] {Threei}  - On Tuesday the US-based Conference Board adjusted its April China Leading Indicator to 0.3% from 1.7% prior, citing a calculation error. The move contributed to panic selling in global equity markets that day. Then the China June Manufacturing PMI data released on Wednesday came in at a four-month low, missing expectations. The key new orders and employment sub indices showed notable sequential declines. Following the data, the China Stats Bureau stated that China's export outlook is grim and warned that the PMI data reflected the slow global recovery
[09:53] {Threei}  - In Brazil, today's May industrial production index was flat, missing expectations of +1.5%.
[09:53] {Threei}  Australia, whose economy is driven mainly by commodity demand from Asia's emerging economies, reported some dicey data. The Australia May building approvals declined more than 6% over April levels, while May retail sales fell to a three-month low.
[09:54] {Threei}  On Wednesday Taiwan's June Manufacturing PMI data dropped considerably over the May figure. India's June Markit Manufacturing PMI reading also declined from the May figure.
[09:54] {Threei}  Finally there is the Baltic Dry Index, a key metric of global trade: today the index fell 2.3% to 2,351 points, extending to 25 days its longest decline since August 2005.
