(US) Ahead of the Close Market Snapshot

US Indices:
- Dow Jones flat
- S&P500 +0.8%
- Nasdaq +1.3%
- US equity markets are following Friday's impressive rally with a steady gain, led by stalwarts Consumer Goods, Services, and Healthcare. Basic Materials and Industrials are lagging with only marginal gains. Tech is hampered by the terrible IBM report, sending its shares down by over 7% into the close. AMD and CSCO are also notable decliners by 1.5-2.0%. In consumer space, PEP, SJM, and DPS are the leaders with over 2% gains, though MJN is down over 3% on a DB downgrade. Services are led by travel names with the panic over Ebola in remission.
Fixed-Income: Volatility in fixed income has receded, though Treasuries are still modestly higher despite two Fed officials backtracking from last week's veiled attempt to prop up risk by introducing uncertainty regarding exit from QE. Fed's Williams - one of the more dovish members - said QE should still end as planned in October. Comments were in the same vein as those from Rosengren overnight. European periphery stress has shifted to Portugal, where the 10-year was up 18bps. Spain/Italy 10-yr yields also up about 10bps, even though Greece remains stable.

- 30-yr: -1bps at 2.96%
- 2-10 spread: +1bps at 1.84%
Energy:
- WTI Dec crude oil $81.92; Active contract shifted a month further but the headwinds persist, with Dec WTI briefly dipping below $81/brl.
Metals:
- Spot Gold $1,245/oz; Marginally higher with early AM peak just shy of $1,249.
- Spot Silver $17.39/oz; Trading sideways in 20c range.
- Dec Copper $2.99/lb; Narrowed range relative to accentuated volatility last week, with lows below $2.97 in AM trade.
