[12:51] {Les} just checking google. ok, next door. same mountains though?
[12:51] {Les} apper whateveryoucallthem
[12:51] {strider} In the western third of the state, yes.
[12:51] {Les} yeh, i understood lot of coal in those mountains
[12:51] {strider} I'm at the foot of the Appalachians.
[12:52] {strider} Mosstly in Kentucky, West Va., Pennsylvania.
[12:55] {RonS} appalachia coal origin: http://mysite.verizon.net/sosborne1/origin.html
[12:57] {Les} cool. but i've the impression that's flat country. what's with the videos seen of blowing mountain tops?
[12:57] {strider} Wrong impression.
[12:58] {RonS} 400 million year old worn down mountain range...but still mountains
[12:59] {ese} am outta here cath you all tomorow.......busy times
[12:59] {RonS} cya ese
[12:59] {ese} cya ron
[12:59] {Les} ciao
[12:59] {dino} cya es
[13:00] {strider} bbye, ese.
[13:01] {magoo} good afternoon all
[13:02] {strider} hello, magoo.:)
[13:02] {Les} hi mags. no one is in charge...
[13:02] {larisa} lol
[13:02] {Les} dino, MEE 49 break interest you?
[13:02] {RonS} larisa, she who must be obeyed...
[13:03] {RonS} ...vad's rule...
[13:03] {dino} scalp short
[13:03] {Les} but not long? ok
[13:04] {dino} the way my mind worls les, it was in downtrend, so quarter breaks are short triggers
[13:04] {dino} gut says re-test by lod and bounce
[13:05] {dino} now nemo knows support better than i
[13:06] {Les} nice theory. another scalp missed
[13:06] {dino} i'm a simple trader les, nothing fancy
[13:07] {dino} cov .88, +.12, thx for heads up
[13:09] {dino} too soon
[13:09] {dino} db in making maybe
[13:11] {Les} so just to get this straight, in downtrend, bounce to quarter zone is short trigger for you is it?
[13:11] {strider} Gotta go... See you all tomorrow.
[13:11] {Les} bye
[13:11] {dino} cya strider
[13:12] {dino} in downtrend, like to see the quarter break, then breath back to it to enter
[13:12] {RonS} dino, do you see a long setup for RF?
[13:12] {dino} not my type too thick, but support .48, looks like it wants up
[13:13] {RonS} thx
[13:13] {dino} darn mee was at .60
[13:15] {dino} les, vad told me years ago, "be water". perhaps that answers your question
[13:16] {RonS} mspd looks like dino thin candidate...
[13:17] {dino} thin, yes ron, but too tight
[13:17] {dino} want pulp traes
[13:17] {dino} trades
[13:17] {Les} well Vad's not a trader of your setups, so I'm interested in how you see a capitulation stock like MEE
[13:18] {dino} i see some strange trades, lol. questions are fine, but i am wrong roughly 35% of time
[13:19] {RonS} ...jeez dino, more than joe biden...
[13:19] {dino} i "expect to lose" on some. odds game to me
[13:20] {Les} yes have observed this
[13:21] {dino} generally on capits les: $2+ drop fast, watch the quarters on bounces, should go through on way up and then come back to the quarter again.
[13:22] {dino} fast drop is key, straight shot down
[13:23] {dino} look at mee, that is not capit drop, that is the trend down, in my minds view, the capit was earlier
[13:23] {dino} rf was good spot ron
[13:26] {dino} les; post this on your wall if you want to know what i think: you are only in competiion w/youself. hard stops remove emotions. what do you believe that is not true? profits are luck, losses are skill. being poor is bad...staying poor is stupid. they are myearly morning prep reads.
[13:27] {RonS} amen
[13:28] {nemo} Could you expand on this one: what do you believe that is not true?
[13:30] {fernp} SPY c&h
[13:31] {dino} talking heads always saying stuff that is not true, falling in love w/trade that doesn't work, thinking something should happen (thursday someone in this room said 11k was guaranteed for monday, i questioned it), etc. question everything, as anything can happen
[13:34] {RonS} ya that I walk through the valley of the tape, I shall fear no evil, be they gs of the fed , for i have the knowledge that nothing is certain and everything possible; except of course vad and larissa. Can i get an amen?
[13:34] {shorty} Was away all morning, missed CIEN for a good run

[13:55] {dino} don't think the chinese care
[13:56] {RonS} ya think, except for the period of British humiliation the Chinese have never given a rat's behind what anyone has wanted...

[14:05] {RonS} ...my in-laws have lived there since 1995...been maybe 10 times. Easy access to "the valley", Phoenix. Better weather, and more stable prop values due to restricted supply due to water, and demand from peple looking ot "beat the heat" with 2nd homes

Apr 05 2010

Nice profitable day requiring strong discpline. Started with two nice wins on CIEN and FCX, then had to stay away from numerous shakeouts as markert remained locked. Only discretionary niche plays worked for those whose style matched them: news play on RINO, momo on ARQL and most of all on UNIS. Skill to play only when there is what to play with is invaluable.

[14:56] {Threei} see it staying in place?
[14:56] {Threei} running nowhere very fast?
[14:56] {Les} damn. not even tiger could do it
[14:56] {Threei} look what pushing gets you:
[14:57] {Threei} you incur unnecessary loss in MON,
[14:57] {Threei} start hunting fot something to cover it,
[14:57] {Threei} in the same environment of non-moving market, notice
[14:58] {Threei} luckily your next find, PMI, works,
[14:58] {Threei} if it didn't which was just as likely,
[14:58] {Threei} you woyuld have looked at ruined day now
[14:58] {Threei} instead of keeping easy morning profits
[14:58] {Les} lol next time I'll shut up...
[14:58] {Threei} now, have a lok at intraday SPY
[14:59] {Threei} see early move up, and then absolute nothng?
[14:59] {Threei} see where easy money was, and where struggle started?
[14:59] {Threei} don't just shut up... learn
[15:00] {Threei} general opportunities ended after that morning move,
[15:00] {Threei} what left was special niche oportunities
[15:01] {Threei} if you are momo trader for instance, there was UNIS
[15:01] {Threei} if you are news trader, there was RINO
[15:01] {Threei} see where I am going with this?
[15:01] {dino} home
[15:02] {Threei} lol
[15:02] {Threei} think of it in terms of "official" calls and discretionary ones
[15:02] {Threei} that'll help with this distinction of general opportunities vs niche ones
[15:02] {Les} wow 7.50 UNIS b/o was beautiful
[15:11] {Threei} be back in 20
[15:13] {dino} jtp

[15:36] {Threei} switching to paper, seeing if there is something you can play conasistently,
[15:36] {Threei} then going back to real money in this kind of situations
[15:36] {Threei} raises great self-control
[15:37] {shorty} Stoped out .29 LVS
[15:37] {Threei} skill to stay away will serve you as well as skill to enter and exit
[15:38] {shorty} Staying away in uncertain times....very usefull skill Threei. You are correct. I would have taken a loss.

[09:12] {Threei} strategy is about setups
[09:12] {Les} cool
[09:12] {larisa} gm :)
[09:12] {Threei} IPO is simply a stock with no history, so setups are harder to come by and less reliable

[10:08] {Threei} nice
[10:08] {ese} to be honest am keeping my eye on abio.......wannna go huge there
[10:09] {Threei} what do you see as trigger? .65?
[10:09] {Threei} or .50?
[10:10] {shorty} out zion for a big loss, for me that is
[10:10] {ese} not yet....am looking for some kind of uptrend signal
[10:11] {ese} moving avgs up....higher lows that sort of thing
[10:11] {Threei} shorty... don't you know the size of the loss you are willing to take BEFORE taking the trade??
[10:11] {dino} kmx
[10:11] {shorty} Yes
[10:11] {shorty} I was expecting it.
[10:11] {Threei} loss is planned in advance
[10:12] {Threei} and counted on
[10:12] {Threei} if you consider it a big loss for you, why do you take the trade with this stop and this position size?
[10:12] {dino} shorty, profits=luck; losses =skill
[10:12] {Threei} risk is your FIRST consideration for the trade
[10:12] {Threei} profit is second
[10:15] {shorty} It's a big loss considering how many cents, but in terms of money, it's peanuts because of the amount of shares that I played. Practicing, making mistakes that won't criple my account, I geuss.
[10:15] {Threei} well, you did take a loss before stop was hit
[10:16] {Threei} means to me, it exceeded your pain limit
[10:16] {shorty} My stop was 22, and I pulled the trigger as soon as I saw 22
[10:16] {Les} stopped bpop
[10:16] {shorty} That is it, I had no idea what my pain limit is, in a way.
[10:16] {Threei} yeah, someone's effort to take out that offer went to waste on BPOP
[10:17] {dino} use $ figure and divide by shares. thin stock smaller shares and wider stop
[10:18] {dino} fwiw shorty, my typical sm is 300, w/.33 stop
[10:19] {dino} xrtx l .50
[10:20] {shorty} Thanks dino. .33 is more then double then I would expect. .10 is where I usually would stop, but I picked 22 so -.15.
[10:20] {Threei} shorty... this is so very wrong
[10:21] {Threei} whole approach
[10:21] {Threei} you don't place stop depending on how much you are willing to lose
[10:21] {Threei} you place stop where chart tells you to
[10:21] {shorty} That is good to hear, in a weird way Threei. It's encouraging words.
[10:21] {Threei} and regulate monetary risk by position size
[10:22] {Threei} please do two things
[10:22] {shorty} Can you help me with ZION? How would you hae played, assuming you would have.
[10:22] {shorty} have
[10:23] {Threei} 1. read http://blog.realitytrader.com/2007/04/stops-why-and-how.html
[10:23] {Threei} 2. go to paper trading at this point, and stay with it until you've gone through MPP, built your trading approach from ground up,
[10:24] {Threei} and watched videos couple times
[10:24] {shorty} You got it Threei.
[10:24] {Threei} on ZION, I would have figured out stop size (16-17 cents,
[10:24] {Threei} defined my max loss,
[10:25] {shorty} Thanks, and I got the video last night.
[10:25] {Threei} determined position size coming from that,
[10:25] {Threei} bought .15,
[10:25] {Threei} placed stop under 22
[10:25] {Threei} but there is more to all this
[10:26] {dino} xrtx stopped -.11
