[10:59] {nemo} no
01[10:59] {Threei}  During the time of the Soviet Union the role of the state in economy was made absolute, which eventually lead to the total non-competitiveness of the economy. That lesson cost us very dearly. I am sure no one would want history to repeat itself.
01[11:00] {Threei}  then again, in the next breath he says:

Market Week Wrap-Up

Markets rebound on hopes that Europe bailouts and Fiscal Cliff can find resolution

After several straight weeks of political concerns exerting downward pressure on equity markets, they snapped back smartly this week. European bourses had their best week of the year, shaking off a Moody's downgrade of France's AAA rating and the EU's failure to agree on a long term budget. Risk on sentiment was attributable to the hopes that leaders in Europe and the US could finally get their houses in order before the New Year. Negotiations on finalizing the revised Greek bailout package continued to grind ahead, with final details expected to be negotiated this weekend ahead of another Eurogroup conclave this coming Monday. This timetable would still allow Greece to receive the anticipated aid tranches in early December. Politicians in Washington were on a holiday break, so optimism from last week's bipartisan Congressional press conference still lingered, though tough negotiations are still ahead. Economic data helped sentiment too, starting with China HSBC Flash Manufacturing PMI on Wednesday posting its first growth reading in 13 months, possibly signaling the slowdown in Chinese growth has bottomed out. The German IFO Business Climate index showed its first rise in seven months, and US saw some more signs of strength in the housing market, with the NAHB Housing Market Index hitting a 6-year high and monthly Housing Starts coming in well above expectations. Trading in crude futures calmed this week as Israel and Hamas agreed to terms of a ceasefire on Wednesday, and so far the truce has held. Gold gained some ground as it tested its 50-day moving average on Friday, to end the week up 2%. Early indications from retailers are that Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday sales have gotten the US holiday shopping season off to a good start. Equity markets erased most of the losses seen in the last two weeks and had their best week since June: the S&P500 rose 3.6%, the Nasdaq added 4%, and the DJIA gained 3.3%, to close above 13,000 for the first time since November 6.

Moody's became the second credit-rating agency to strip France of its AAA rating on Monday evening. Moody's warned that a sustained loss of competitiveness and the failure to tackle structural problems prompted the decision to downgrade France. French Finance Minister Moscovici found a silver lining to the downgrade, claiming it would force leaders to agree to pursue reforms, however the development will have repercussions even though yields on French debt barely wavered in the aftermath of the move. To begin with, Moody's said the downgrade would impact the rating of the ESM/EFSF bailout facilities, and the EFSF was forced to delay the auction of three-year notes on Tuesday.

Hewlett-Packard shares collapsed to near 10-year lows after reporting accounting irregularities at its recently acquired Autonomy unit. On an adjusted basis, HP more or less met expectations in its Q4 results, however revenue fell nearly 7% y/y and after charges the firm racked up a huge quarterly loss, and Q1 EPS guidance was well below expectations. The firm took an $8.8B 'kitchen sink' charge in the quarter, blaming $5B of that on "serious accounting improprieties and outright misrepresentations" at Autonomy Corporation, which it acquired last fall. CEO Whitman said the board's due diligence had relied on financials audited by Deloitte, and said management had brought the accounting issue to the attention of US and UK regulators. A spokesman for the former Autonomy CEO shot back, saying the allegations were totally false and the due diligence was intensive.

Best Buy also had a terrible quarter, missing earnings targets by a very wide margin in its Q3 report. Overall sales were down on y/y basis and comps were equally bad. Executives continue to blame the poor overall economic environment, competition from online sites and customers holding back on purchases ahead of new product launches. Investors were clearly disappointed with Deer & Co Q4 results as well. Shares slid 4% after coming up short of consensus estimates on the bottom line and offering conservative guidance for 2013.

Saleforce.com was a noticeable bright spot among the week's earnings reports. Shares rose 8% after reporting Q3 earnings and sales exceeded expectations and the CEO said that the strong response to next generation cloud technologies will enable the company to surpass a $4B annual revenue run rate next year.

Energy markets went for a bit of a ride as traders watched headlines out of the Mideast closely. On Monday, the violence escalated as Israel bombed strategic targets in Gaza city and Hamas continued to lob rockets toward major population centers. As Israel called up tens of thousands of reservists in what was seen as a prelude to a ground incursion into Gaza, the rhetoric on both sides did little to quell the speculation of a larger conflict and oil prices rose sharply. By mid-week reports began to surface that the new Egyptian President had brokered a cease fire and as a result energy prices backed off, despite US stockpile data from both the API and EIA that indicated large draw downs across all three categories. For the week WTI and Brent each finished up more than 1.5%, but well off the Monday highs.

US Treasury markets spent much of the week on the defensive. Some speculated traders were unwinding positions ahead of thinner holiday shortened trade, as well as potentially reacting to some of the more positive comments made by Fed Chairman Bernanke. On Tuesday the Chairman suggested the financial crisis lowered the potential of US GDP growth below 2.5% and reiterated that the Fed has no means of offsetting the fiscal cliff, so Washington needs to find a solution. He also noted that a resolution to the fiscal cliff would have a positive impact on growth and the housing market has seen clear signs of improvement.

In Forex markets, the week began with a rise in risk appetite as sentiment that negotiations on a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff were productive which weighed upon the USD and JPY currencies. The EUR/USD started the week with a move over 1.2780 level. The currency was able to shake-off the French sovereign downgrade with growing optimism that Eurogroup would soon reach an acceptable agreement on Greece debt sustainability in order to release the next tranche payment before the country goes bankrupt in mid-December. The FX market was betting on a Greek solution with the Greek 10-year yield falling below the 16% level for its best post debt restructuring reading and the EUR/USD found the momentum to sustain a move above its 200-day moving average at 1.2804. The pair hit a 3-week high at 1.2915 after Friday's German IFO Survey registered its first month over month improvement in seven months.

The USD/JPY pair hit fresh 7-month highs while EUR/JPY cross tested above the 106 handle for 6-month highs. A number of factors were cited for the weaker JPY currency including a wider than expected Japan merchandise deficit, Japanese LDP opposition election platform and dealer chatter of M&A flows with rumor that Softbank had started buying USD for acquisition of Sprint with cited. The JPY was off its worst levels by Friday after LDP opposition leader Abe changed his FX intervention rhetoric that he was not thinking of currency intervention to weaken the JPY currency and wanted the BOJ to address strong yen through monetary policy.

Pretty much empty day with narrow range, lacking in both volatility and volume. We decided to skip Friday as trading is not likely to offer much on that half-day, so Monday Nov 26 is the next trading session.

Hurricane Sandy, which is not yet fully reflected in the LEI, will likely adversely affect consumer spending and home building in the short-term, but it's too soon to gauge the net impact. In addition, the outcome of the fiscal cliff debates is another factor which could alter the outlook."

01[11:21] {Threei}  - US stock trading is fairly quiet ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Indices opened near the flat line despite EU and IMF officials being unable to come to a resolution on Greece at last night's finance ministers meeting. US Treasury markets are seeing some selling for the second straight session as some speculate traders are unwinding positions ahead of thinner holiday trade, as well as potentially reacting to some of the more positive comments made by Fed Chairman Bernanke yesterday. Reminder, US stock and bond markets are closed tomorrow and both close early on Friday
01[11:22] {Threei}  which btw requires a decision by us
01[11:22] {Threei}  do we want Fri trading?
[11:22] {nemo} interesting...financials are weak

If private investors fail to buy at least a tenth of the new shares, the lenders will fall under the control of the HFSF, a bailout-financed fund which will buy most of the new shares and all of the convertible bonds. - The banks' new shares are to be priced at a 50 percent discount to the average price 50 days prior to the offering. - Source TradeTheNews.com

01[11:16] {Threei}  - Trading has been choppy on both sides of the Atlantic as traders contend with multiple impactful stories this morning. In Europe, eurozone finance ministers are meeting this morning to discuss unfreezing 40B in aid payments for Greece. There are obviously hopes for a positive outcome, although dissenting voices have been heard, most notably from Finland. Moodys downgrade of France's sovereign rating, to AA1 from AAA, has had a limited impact. The French government shrugged off the move, although it has possibly delayed issuance of a three-year EFSF bond. In Israel, there is talk that the Netanyahu government is ready to sign a temporary ceasefire with Hamas as soon as tonight. In the US, there is an emerging consensus that the Democrats will likely force their approach to the Bush tax cuts on the House GOP.
01[11:17] {Threei}  too bad ese is not here, he would be happy to see this:
01[11:17] {Threei}  Another month, another excellent housing data point: the October housing starts reading hit its highest level since July 2008. Single-family home construction actually fell very slightly m/m, while apartment construction rose 10% m/m.

01[11:27] {Threei}  Les, to capture this kind just trail last part
01[11:28] {Threei}  dopn't take it off the table until it either hits trailing stop or spikes vertically
[11:28] {Les} so trailing stop is with each partial I lift stop to prior partial?
01[11:28] {Threei}  just under
[11:28] {Les} k
01[11:29] {Threei}  and then last part you just trail
[11:29] {nemo} stop to .70ish

[11:29] {Les} yeh
[11:29] {nemo} o.k. getting iffy here
01[11:29] {Threei}  when it spikes vertically, eother dump it or choke it
01[11:29] {Threei}  by tightening the trail
01[11:29] {Threei}  i.e., 5 cents instead of 10
01[11:30] {Threei}  you can see sometimes dino doing this
[11:30] {nemo} might see it consolidate around here for an afternoon break
[11:30] {Les} y

[11:32] {nemo} yeah need to imbed it in more tissue, especially as I drink braincells away
[11:32] {nemo} which reminds me...
[11:35] {nemo} Hey Sheila, see how I looked at IWM SPY and the finnies for that one?
[11:36] {Les} god no I'm sitting fat dumb and happy rotating on my finger
[11:36] {Les} why would I be looking at charts for?
[11:36] {Les} :P
[11:36] {nemo} I'm sure you use the whole fist
01[11:37] {Threei}  TNA breaks .85, I'd trail to .74
[11:38] {Les} didn't see all charts. Just saw bullish divergence on 1 min chart as thrust to new low was made.
[11:38] {Les} was already aware of 3 min. potential
[11:38] {nemo} yeah, I'm at .70 anyway, finnies have been way stronger today, if they cave, everything is going
[11:42] {nemo} well, we're getting the consolidation, finnies are at a confluence level for me, so it's possible, outside the time of day, tna break above .85 is a long
[11:42] {nemo} with stop under .75
[11:44] {nemo} Natucket Sleigh Ride...
[11:45] {Les} damn we flyin
01[11:45] {Threei}  this is vertical I want to see

01[11:46] {Threei}  .89
[11:46] {nemo} yeah
01[11:46] {Threei}  breaks 52 - trail to .94
[11:46] {nemo} I'm thinking they try to drive the index higher
01[11:46] {Threei}  yeah, SPY is aout to take .20
[11:46] {nemo} and IWM is leading spy, which indicates bullishness
[11:46] {nemo} imo
[11:47] {nemo} and I'm still sober to boot
[11:47] {nemo} I would expect an attempted flush after this move
[11:48] {nemo} whoa...just had an image of Les swirling around in water

[11:59] {nemo} we ain't there yet though
01[11:59] {Threei}  look at TNA from the point of view of 52 break
01[11:59] {Threei}  wouldn't you short that?
[11:59] {nemo} I understand, but I'll take it personally if I want to
01[11:59] {Threei}  that's TZA .95 break

01[12:04] {Threei}  Dear Vadym,
01[12:04] {Threei}  Recently, you received an email indicating chosen as a potential candidate to represent your professional community in the 2012 Edition of Worldwide Who's Who.
01[12:04] {Threei}  We have yet to hear from you! This email simply serves as a FINAL REMINDER of your nomination for this selection period.
01[12:04] {Threei}  uh oh... I better hurry
01[12:05] {Threei}  after all, it's a FINAL REMINDER
01[12:05] {Threei}  not just some final reminder
[12:05] {nemo} well, I'm out
01[12:06] {Threei}  and it's worldwide... not just the neighborhood limited by ese on the south and will on the east
[12:06] {dino} out ravn .23, +.23
01[12:11] {Threei}  so, any of the following will do:
01[12:11] {Threei}  1. Israel/Hamas no truce
01[12:11] {Threei}  2, Ben saying "no balance sheet expansion"
01[12:11] {Threei}  3. EU saying no deal for Greece
01[12:12] {Threei}  any of those will take TZA to 1:2 in a blink of eye
01[12:15] {Threei}  so far so good
01[12:15] {Threei}  holding the line of trend reversal
01[12:16] {Threei}  (US) Fed Chairman Bernanke: There is some way to go until labor market is fully recovered; housing market has seen clear signs of improvement - Economic Club of NY- Inflation is generally subdued, to stay near 2% goal for several years
01[12:17] {Threei}  1:1
01[12:18] {Threei}  come on nemo, you can't remain oblivious to the precision of the reversal call
[12:19] {robbers} If TZA goes 1:2, you get my vote on traderplanet.
06[12:19] * Threei slaps nemo around a bit with a banner demanding recognition
[12:19] {nemo} congratulations
[12:19] {nemo} Now put your arm back in the sling
01[12:19] {Threei}  hmmm... that's a tough treshold to reach on relatively narrow thing TZA is... :)
01[12:19] {Threei}  but let's see
01[12:20] {Threei}  Ben's helping
01[12:20] {Threei}  - Financial Crisis has lowered potential of US GDP growth below 2.5% level. - US fiscal policy is a headwind for the economy, tighter federal spending is hitting GDP growth - European concerns have weighed on US asset prices.
01[12:20] {Threei}  ese would have been livid

[12:36] {nemo} spy coming into vwap
01[12:37] {Threei}  here is a piece of common wisdom which I am not so sure is true:
01[12:37] {Threei}  (US) Fed Chairman Bernanke: The fiscal cliff is a substantial threat to recovery, failure to solve the issue could cause a recession while resolution would have a positive impact
01[12:37] {Threei}  short term, sure
[12:37] {dino} giii spike
01[12:37] {Threei}  long term, maybe fiscal cliff is not the worst thing to happen
[12:39] {dino} mstr drop
[12:40] {robbers} Maybe, Vad, but there'd be some psychological damage, I think.  Makes our political system look even less effective.  If that's possible.
