Apr 19 2010

Very strong day, with longs on GS (for +$1), WFC (+.20 and .25), LVS (+.20), AIG, shorts on PALM and JPM... couple small stops didn't even make a dent. Congratulations to our gutsiest trader who hit over $3 run on GS on decent size.

[11:35] {Threei} one of weaker ones
[11:35] {Threei} I am not delighted

[11:35] {Threei} and don't like long on a weak stock
[11:36] {Threei} GE) German Econ Min: There is no guarantee that airlines will receive subsidies for losses related to Iceland volcano ash cloud; need to loosen restriction on nighttime flying and weekend trucking to offset impact

[11:39] {Les} I know England is pissed with Iceland
[11:39] {Threei} oh, ok... I was hoping for the best joke of the year
[11:40] {Les} lol that would be too much
[11:41] {Threei} well, one of better jokes over the weekend was Iceland answering "when is your volcano going to stop erupting?" with
[11:41] {Threei} "well... is our debt forgiven/"
[11:42] {Les} hehehe
[11:45] {Threei} reversal attempt didn't succeed, more downside in order
[11:46] {Threei} Short Setup: JPM .80 break
[11:46] {Threei} if stays under .85 for scalpers, .90 for day traders
[11:49] {Threei} C Exec: Right now everyone is waiting for clarity on what capital requirements will be before deterimining when to reinstate dividends - conf call Q&A

[11:52] {RonS} dino, ferts going natural
[11:53] {Les} someone abandoned MOS to the wolves
[11:54] {RonS} ...looks like a h&s breakdown, check the daily
[11:55] {Les} something like that. b/d from 56 nice
[11:56] {dino} brutal couple weeks for them
[11:59] {dino} bucy blood
[12:00] {Threei} need to see how end of dasy works of course, but so far, the selling is fairly contyrolled,
[12:00] {Threei} no panic, no get-me-out-now
[12:00] {ese} would agree with that sentiment
[12:01] {RonS} 1180 break would bring some panic. i have 1181 as downside target from the first hour range
[12:02] {dino} dji not meaningful, ndx, s/p more realistic
[12:02] {dino} resource plays seem to be getting clocked.
[12:02] {ese} I think that is the S&P dino

[12:06] {Threei} we may have a few of them on daily basis, as market dances around these levels
[12:08] {Threei} EU) ECB's Weber: Greece may need additional aid
[12:08] {Threei} lol
[12:09] {Les} who did they get aid from? I thought they'd manage to raise capital from the markets?
[12:10] {Threei} no they didn't
[12:10] {Les} oh
[12:10] {Threei} bond sales in USA failed, and market borrow rates were wy too high for them
[12:11] {Les} crap, and there is the fate of all European nations that need to borrow. UK, Spain etc
[12:11] {Threei} Portugal, Italy and Spain and major focus now
[12:11] {Les} Vad you got a read on MOS here?
[12:11] {Les} can't tell b/d or long entry on pullback
[12:11] {Threei} I still think short
[12:12] {Threei} 52
[12:12] {Threei} just would like better pronounced resistance level
[12:13] {Threei} no bounce
[12:13] {Threei} if you went for it, keep stop above .15
[12:13] {Les} s .99 small shares
[12:13] {Les} looking to cover .75
[12:14] {Threei} not greatly outlined resistance, I like better defined charts
[12:14] {Les} agreed
[12:14] {Threei} but with market this weak, we are not getting bounces good enough to form those
[12:15] {Threei} don't like this long hesitance... break of major support should produce better falls
[12:16] {Threei} tighten stop to above .10 IMO
[12:16] {Les} k
[12:16] {Threei} no need to get caught into vicious snapback
[12:16] {Les} out. don't like it
[12:17] {Les} and gotta do dinner
[12:17] {Threei} lol... you europians
[12:17] {Threei} doesn't concern you fern, you we like
[12:19] {fernp} nah, not too much
[12:19] {Threei} I meant you personally
[12:19] {Threei} is it bounce time for the market or not yet
[12:20] {Threei} we need little pullback, no new low,
[12:20] {Threei} then break of the high of this bounce
[12:20] {fernp} Spain is on the brink
[12:20] {dino} ctrp sm l .50
[12:20] {Threei} I know... together with Italy and Portugal
[12:21] {fernp} unemployment
[12:21] {fernp} is very high
[12:21] {Threei} let's keep LVS as bounce candidate
[12:21] {dino} ctsh sm l .45
[12:21] {Threei} and WFC
[12:22] {Threei} Long Setup: WFC .50 break
[12:22] {Threei} low of this pullback will be stop level
[12:22] {Threei} loss of .40 will invalidate setup
[12:24] {magoo} AIG vad, bounce??
[12:24] {dino} bucy sm l .50 ave
[12:24] {Threei} not sure mags
[12:24] {Threei} 50/50
[12:25] {Threei} if holding .50 and bounces, will be rather big
[12:25] {Threei} but I don't see easy trigger
[12:25] {Threei} maybe .60
[12:25] {Threei} stop is tight enough
[12:26] {Threei} setups are a little bit like jellyfish today
[12:26] {Threei} no clarity
[12:27] {Les} and nasty sting if mishandled
[12:28] {Threei} nah, just keep the stop... we don't touch those with too wide stops anyway
[12:29] {Threei} WFC is one of the better setups... cleanly defined trigger, tight stop and nice absence of overhead for about 15 cents at least
[12:29] {Threei} just need market cooperation
[12:30] {Threei} see how willing it is?
[12:30] {Threei} (US) Obama Administration to hold first meeting of debt reduction commission on 4/27
[12:30] {Threei} - Fed's Bernanke to testify before the committee
[12:31] {Threei} AIG invalidated
[12:31] {Threei} LVS moved more or less, but I never found clear entry
[12:35] {dino} out ctrp .00, +.50
[12:36] {dino} xrtx gap filled from march
[12:38] {Threei} mags
[12:38] {magoo} yes?
[12:38] {Threei} you may want to start hunting GS

[10:33] {Threei} *(GR) FITCH CUTS GREECE TO BBB- FROM BBB+ (two notch cut); OUTLOOK NEGATIVE
[10:33] {Threei} - Agency has simultaneously affirmed Greece's Country Ceiling at 'AAA' and the Short-term foreign currency IDR at 'F2'.
[10:33] {Threei} - States: The downgrade reflects the intensification of fiscal challenges in response to more adverse prospects for economic growth and increased interest costs. It also reflects ongoing uncertainties about the government's financing strategy in the context of increased capital market volatility.
[10:33] {Threei} - States: The sharp rise in interest rates faced by the government this year, in combination with a deterioration in the outlook for economic growth, will make it harder for the government to achieve its fiscal targets of reducing the deficit to 8.7% of GDP this year and ensuring that public debt peaks at just over 120% of GDP in 2010 and 2011. Pressures on the banking system underline the adverse spill-over from sovereign risk concerns on the wider economy, while contingent liabilities from the banking sector will increase as the government provides banks with increased guaranteed funding.
[10:33] {Threei} ** Note that Greece's sovereign debt carries an A2 rating at Moodys, two notches above the equivalent ratings at Fitch and S&P (BBB-). If Moody's were to recalibrate its rating in line with its peers it would render Greece's sovereign debt ineligible for ECB repo operations when collateral criteria reverts to the normal minimum thresholds (A3/A- or above) at the end of 2010

[13:38] {shorty} Can you explain to me the spike there? Someone bought 13k at 24.05? At 13:35.
[13:41] {Threei} I don't see 24.05 at 13:35
[13:49] {shorty} Your time 10:35.39 It shows 9000,(Quote center) but I saw it on my T&S at 13200. Probably nothing, but I see once in a while. I find it odd to see buying at a higher price, and selling at a lower price.

[14:10] {shorty} I can do it May without penalty.
[14:10] {Threei} if your bank offers this
[14:10] {shorty} But I am thinking of Manuallife one.
[14:10] {Threei} but if you have to roll to another, they will probably want penalty?
[14:11] {shorty} No, my banker told I can do it in May, 160 days before due. Something like that.
[14:11] {Threei} wow, look at this:
[14:11] {Threei} - may charge Greece additional 100bps if the emergency loans duration is beyond 3 years
[14:11] {Threei} - no loan amounts yet discussed, but if requested the size would be enough to shock markets
[14:11] {Threei} - a decision to help Greece could be decided upon, if needed, within hours
[14:12] {shorty} Hmmm.
[14:13] {Threei} anyway, if that's a rate you are interested in, BMO offers it

Mar 23 2010

Pretty much repetition of yesterday - profitable day with a long period of inactivity or small discretionary scalps. RCL short was the best trade early in the morning; the rest mostly came out to scalps. Yesterday's forecast about climb up continuing got confirmed for today; DOW 11K is within easy reach now, and seems inevitable.
